Bohuslav Fott prize

The Czech Phycological Society annually announces the prize for the outstanding student publication in honour of the eminent Czech researcher Prof. Bohuslav Fott. The prize is awarded for an original scientific publication published in a respected international journal, with the first author being a student of a Czech or Slovak university. The prize is associated with a financial reward of CZK 5,000. The results of the competition are usually announced during the September CPS conference.

Terms and conditions of the competition:

  • the proposal for the award is submitted by a CPS member 
  • the prize is awarded for a first-authored article by an undergraduate or PhD student published in a respected peer-reviewed journal
  • the prize is awarded for a publication that was at least partly produced at a workplace in the Czech Republic or Slovakia (documented by mentioning of this workplace in the publication)
  • the prize is always awarded for the previous calendar year, the date of acceptance of the article for publication is decisive
  • the date of acceptance of the publication must precede the date of defence of the candidate's dissertation or thesis

Entry to the competition

  • a publication enters the competition by sending its electronic form in PDF format to the address of the CPS chairman (p.dvorak@upol.cz), subject "Bohuslav Fott prize"
  • the entering author will receive a confirmation of the acceptance of the application; if this does not happen, the confirmation should be urged
  • the deadline for applications is usually 31 August.
